Beginning 12:01am, Thursday, April 1, 2010, the City of Fairlawn will no longer monitor alarms on equipment provided by U.S. Protective Services, Inc. fka Regal, Access, Metron Companies, aka RAM Electronic Services.
Therefore, it is necessary for business owners to contract with an approved alarm monitor provider as it is no longer a requirement to engage U.S. Protective Services Inc. Keep in mind, however, U.S. Protective Services Inc may continue to be used as an alarm monitoring provider under the new format if you so choose. The provider you use is up to you.
Legislation was approved by Fairlawn City Council removing the requirement that all alarm systems be directly connected to the City’s Communications Center. For the continuing safety of persons and property, however, business owners are still required to provide for an alarm monitoring system that meets the requirements of the Ohio Building Code (OBC), Ohio Fire Code (OFC), Fairlawn City Code (FCC) and any conditions that were placed upon it by the Fairlawn Planning Commission.
Therefore, it is necessary for business owners to make arrangements with an alarm provider of its choice to monitor its business accordingly. In so doing emergencies generated by the alarm system will be monitored by your provider who, in turn, will notify the city’s Communications Center of any emergency requiring the response by the appropriate safety forces. Please keep in mind any new installation or modification must be inspected and tested by the city’s Fire Inspectors.
If you should have any questions, please direct your fire inquiries to Chief Goodrich at 330.668.9540 and your police inquiries to Chief Walsh at 330.670.4300. Also, attached for your information is Chapter 1606 ALARMS.
