The City of Fairlawn invites you to celebrate Independence Day with a 90-minute performance by the Brass Band of the Western Reserve beginning at 7:00 pm followed by an hour and a half of music and fun performed by The Phil & Sparky Show.  We will finish the evening with a dazzling display of fireworks (beginning around 10:00 pm), which will light up Bicentennial Park. Please be aware that the fireworks will go off anytime between 7:30 and 10:30 weather permitting.  This event is free to the public, but please be aware of the following safety guidelines regarding traffic, parking and park rules:

Parking will not be permitted on either side of Bancroft Road from West Market Street to Elgin Drive, or on either side of Stanley from Bancroft to Elgin Drive.  Please be courteous to the residents on these streets by keeping pedestrian traffic in the street to avoid damaging lawns and gardens.  Alcoholic beverages, fireworks of any kind and soliciting are not permitted in any city park.  While pets are permitted, please be aware of the Ohio leash law, and keep all pets on leashes at all times and clean up after your pet!

This year’s shuttle service will be provided by Petermann school bus lines from the east end of Summit Mall (Dillard’s parking lot) beginning at 6:00 pm to the Fairlawn-Kiwanis Community Center parking lot prior to the event and back to the mall after the show.

Free Summer Park Program

It is a special event each year when the Park Program kicks off the Summer!  Each park offers a state of the art playground with rubberized surfacing unlike any in the area, Park Staff on site to play with and organize programs for the park goers.  Remember, the is a FREE summer program and anyone and everyone who comes to the park is welcome to join in the fun!

Additional amenities at each park include tennis courts, basketball courts, hand ball courts (Croghan), walking trails (Fort Island/Griffith) and of course the Learning Resource Center (Fort Island/Griffith).  Equipment, such as tennis racquets and balls, basketballs, hula-hoops, etc., may be checked out at no cost at each park office with the proper forms. The Park Program officially kicks off June 9, 2009.

Any questions about either park mentioned may be directed to the Parks Department 330-668-9515.  Please visit the parks daily to see what special events, theme days, and activities may take place and when.  Please be reminded that we are not a baby-sitting service for your child.  Please keep in mind that due to specific events or the weather, our staff may close one, or both parks without notice and if your child is not old enough to be left on his or her own, they should not be in the park without an adult.

We look forward to playing with you this summer!
