The Fairlawn Fire Department was established in 1981 to provide fire and EMS services to the citizens of the City of Fairlawn. The department's first Fire Chief was John Gemind who organized and secured the needed resources required to outfit a growing community with fire and EMS protection. Chief Gemind retired in 2000 turning over the Office of the Chief to then Assistant Chief Glenn Goodrich. In 2011 Chief Goodrich retired and then Captain Russ Hose was promoted to Fire Chief. The Department has grown through the years to its present force of 13 full-time and 34 part-time employees. Today the Fairlawn Fire Department has an ISO Class-4 community protection rating. The Fire Department's 13 full-time employees are all state certified paramedics with ACLS training, State of Ohio Firefighter II certification, and possess a wide variety of special training and education which meet the needs of our growing and vibrant community.
