There are twenty officers assigned to the Patrol Division. The Division is comprised of three Sergeants, sixteen full-time officers, and one part-time officer. Field Services Lieutenant Mark R. Schlegel oversees the day-to-day operations of the Patrol Division, which is divided into four shifts that provide 24 hour coverage for the City of Fairlawn.
Officers assigned to this Division are responsible for exerting every effort to satisfy the needs of citizens requesting service, assistance or information. A primary goal of the Patrol Division is to provide a safe environment for those individuals residing in and visiting our city. Patrol officers conduct diligent patrols of the residential and business districts focusing their efforts on prevention as opposed to enforcement measures. As first responders for calls for service, patrol officers conduct a thorough initial investigation, collect evidence and record data, which will aid in the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of offenders.
In addition to their patrol duties, some officers are assigned to specialized programs such as Safety Town, Summit Metro Crash Team and Metro S.W.A.T and the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. Our officers are continuously participating in continuing education programs and mandated training through the State of Ohio, Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Commission.
